Each year, the Bishop along with all the priest, deacons, and seminarians of the Diocese gather for this Mass. Part of the symbolism of this Mass is the unity between the Bishop and his priests. Altar servers from the Diocese are also invited to attend and participate in the entrance procession.
The Mass begins with a procession of all the altar servers, followed by the seminarians, deacons, priests, and the Bishop.
Besides the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, two other things occur during this Mass:
First, the priests make their annual renewal of their priestly vows. This is a powerful moment in the life of every priest, as well as for those present to witness their public promises.
The second major focus of the Mass is the blessing of the Holy Oils to be used in the liturgical year following Easter. In this celebration, the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick, and the Chrism Oil are blessed by the Bishop.
Participation in this liturgy is a wonderful experience for our servers, allowing them to represent our parish and showing support for our priests.
